Donders Institute

The Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behavior is a world-class research centre devoted to understanding the mechanistic underpinnings of human cognition and behavior in health and disease. The Institute’s mission includes conducting interdisciplinary research of excellence at the unique interface between genetic, molecular and cellular processes at one end and computational, system-level neuroscience with cognitive and behavioral analysis at the other end. Within this range we focus on four research themes:

  • Language and Communication
  • Perception, Action and Control,
  • Plasticity and Memory
  • Brain Networks and Neuronal Communication

The research conducted at the Donders Institute has enormous potential for benefiting society and the Institute also gears its research towards current and anticipated societal issues and challenges. The institute has captured its societal impact focus and ambitions in five Donders Innovation Programs. In these areas, we want to generate, share and transfer knowledge, for which we actively reach out to public and private societal partners to interact and collaborate.

  1. Health & Healthcare
  2. Food & Cognition
  3. Learning & Education
  4. Neurotechnology & Big data
  5. Public & Politics
